Otto Jelinek

Otto, along with his sister, Maria, competed in pairs figure skating. In 1955, they were the Canadian Junior Champions. Between 1956 and 1960 they won four silver medals in the Canadian Seniors Championships and in 1961 and 1962 they were the Canadian Senior Pairs Champions. In 1962 Otto and Maria won the World Pairs Championship. Somehow, Otto also managed to squeeze in time to play senior football at Blakelock. In 1962 he was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and in 1992 he was inducted into the Canadian Figure Skating Hall of Fame. From 1962-1972

Otto worked in his family's business in Oakville (Jelinek Sports) and then he ran for political office. In 1972, he was elected and served as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons in Ottawa. Otto's term in government lasted for the next twenty years. During that time he served as Cabinet Minister in various portfolios including Sports and Fitness, Supply and Services and National Revenue.

In 1994 he returned to the Czech Republic and became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Deloitte & Touche, Central Europe. In 2006 Otto was appointed the Czech Republic's International Coordinator for Economic Activities.
