Dr. Alan Brown

Alan is the Medical Director of Child , Adolescent and Family Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. He has held this position since November 2004. Previously a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, he was the consulting psychiatrist to the ADHD Child and Adolescent Clinic with outpatient treatment. He was responsible for the development of a day treatment program in cooperation with the Halton Board of Education and the development of the present regional child and adolescent inpatient program. He has maintained a private outpatient practice as well in Oakville 1983 to 1992 and from 1997 to present.

Alan received his (honours) B.Sc. in Biology / Psychiatry from McMaster in 1970. He received his M.A.Sc. in applied psychology from the University of Waterloo in 1973, his M.D. from McMaster University in 1979 and his fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians in Psychiatry in 1983. Dr. Brown has been on the teaching faculties of McMaster University Medical School and the University of Toronto.

Alan left Oakville from 1992 to 1997 to become the Medical Director of Wellborn Hospital in Evansville, Indiana where he established a 36-bed child and adolescent inpatient program, day treatment and outpatient service. While there, he was also the Medical Director of the State of Indiana: Child and Adolescent State Psychiatric facility EPCC and was on the teaching faculty of the University of Evansville.

Alan has been the consulting psychiatrist to both the Halton Board of Education and the Peel Board of Education and is providing psychiatric consultation to the Dorval Medical Associates Family Health Team.
