Cecelia Carter

Cecelia was an outstanding athlete while at Blakelock participating in track and field, basketball and volleyball. She was a SOSSA Zone champion in track and SOSSA Zone Team Champion during her time at Blakelock.

Cecelia went on to set Canadian and World records in track and field. She held the Canadian Indoor record in the 440 yards. She was the Canadian champion four times in the 440 yards both indoors and outdoors and in the outdoors 4 x 110 relay.

Cecelia also held the world and Canadian (indoor) record in the 600 yards.

She participated in two Commonwealth Games (Jamaica - 1966; Scotland - 1970).

Post-secondary, Cecelia earned a degree in political science and then a specialist certificate in physical and health education.

She taught in a number of schools including Pinegrove Elementary (Oakville), Bishop Ryan, Glendale, Sir John A. Macdonald, Westdale and Hillfield Strathallan (Hamilton).

Cecelia has been inducted into the McMaster Sports Hall of Fame, Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame, Hamilton Gallery of Distinction and the McMaster University Gallery of Distinction. She is also the recipient of the following awards: Ray Lewis Award for Community Service (City of Hamilton), Woman of Distinction Award (City of Hamilton), Hamilton-Wentworth CDSB Distinguished Service Award, Queen's Jubilee Medal for volunteerism, and the Bill Paterson Award as the top physical and health education teacher in Ontario.
